The Sophia Plan – Resilience Management Group – 2020

Brussels, May 14, 2020. The ‘Sophia’* plan for Belgium written by the Resilience Management Group was launched today in a press conference! Co-created by academics (including Leo Van Broeck), scientists, economists, entrepreneurs, and 182 sustainable companies of the Kaya Coalition, this wise transition plan for a sustainable recovery post-COVID 19 includes more than 200 measures in 15 themes.

The pandemic has shown us that the resilience of the economy is just as important as productivity and competitiveness. We need an ecological and social transition to avoid, slow down, or mitigate the effects of future crises. The ‘Sophia’ plan is Belgium’s wise answer to this need. * Sophia (Koinē Greek: σοφία sophía “wisdom”) is a central idea in Hellenistic philosophy and religion, Platonism, Gnosticism, and Christian theology. Originally carrying a meaning of “cleverness, skill”, the latter meaning of the term, close to the meaning of Phronesis (“wisdom, intelligence”), was significantly shaped by the term philosophy (“love of wisdom”) as used by Plato.
